Fishing Rod

A fishing pole or fishing rod is a tool used in catching fish. It is usually used in angling and competition casting. A fishing line’s length is attached to a flexible, long pole or rod with the other end terminating in a hook to catch the fish. A fishing rod is a more stylish casting tool that is fitted with line guides and a reel for line stowage.

Fishing rods differ in action and length and can be found in sizes from 24 inches to 20 feet. The longer the fishing rod, the greater the mechanical advantage in its casting.

Before determining which rod is the best, anglers must know the action and power of a rod. These two factors often get confused and intertwined, even by many experienced anglers.

The action concerns how much a rod will bend when you are casting or when you have a fish at the end of the line. The line sizes and lure weights that a fishing rod can handle determines its power. Rods can control progressively heavier lines and lures as the power rises from light to heavy.

A fast action, medium-light power rod is the best choice for all around fishing and is used with a spinning reel. These spinning reels contain an open spool in the front and mounts on the bottom of the rod. It is a great choice for fishing circumstances where the line used is about 10 pounds or less in strength.
