Fishing Sinker

The equipment fishermen use in catching fish is generally referred to as fishing gear or fishing tackle. This is also used in recreational fishing, except that they make use of added gears. One such gear is called the terminal tackle, which is attached to the tip of the fishing line. This includes fish hooks, line sinkers, swivels, leaders, and snaps. The first three are needed in ”tight line fishing”. The fishing sinker is also known as a plummet. It serves as a weight to force the bait or the lure into a rapid sinking motion or to lengthen the distance when cast off.

There are different types of sinkers from which to choose. Sinkers that are made of round-shaped lead, resembling a pipe stem and swelling in the centre, are known as the ordinary or common sinkers. Other sinkers come in coils of brass wire, where the line is attached on either end. Today, using smaller lead-based sinkers has been prohibited in the UK, in Canada, and in some states of the US since ingestion of lead may cause poisoning. This has led to several deaths of waterfowl and other organisms that live by or in the water. The sinker that is essential for trolling is the swivel sinker that it uses a swivel in place of loops and prevents the line from getting tangled or twisted. In bottom fishing, a slide sinker, which is made of a lead-shaped tube that lets the line slide through it when either big or small fish bite the bait, is perfect for fishermen.
