Rhode Island Fishing

Rhode Island is one of the best fishing destinations in the US. The place offers an exciting fishing experience, both in saltwater and freshwater. The waters in this area provide fishermen with different species of huge game fish.

Saltwater fishing is a leading sport in the state, where giant swordfish, marlin and bluefin tuna are the prized catches. A local favourite is the striped bass. Aside from off-shore game fishing, the state also offers in-shore surf, rock fishing and bottom fishing in protected shoreline and bay areas.

Moreover, charter boats are available in Rhode Island for exciting saltwater fishing in several destinations, such as Galilee, Point Judith, and Watch Hill. Local party boats are also available for the fishing activities of an entire family. These affordable party boats offer the chance to catch fluke, cod, bluefish, sea bass and more.

Everywhere in the state there are places where people can go fresh water fishing in natural as well as in stocked areas. The beautiful natural scenery in rivers, such as the Pawcatuck, Wood, Falls, and Moosup, offer superb trout fishing during spring, summer, and autumn. Other fresh water species, such as perch, northern pike, and large mouth bass are abundant in many lakes and ponds in Rhode Island. The trout season opens every year on the second Saturday of April at sunrise.

From shore to boat, Rhode Island is a paradise for fishermen. The diversity and abundance of game fish found in the waters of the state, combined with the accessibility of the shoreline, offer fishing excitement throughout the year.
