Tips on Spin Fishing for Trout

Spin fishing is a technique wherein a spinning lure is used to entice fish to the bite. This can be employed both in marine and freshwater environments. In doing spin fishing, especially for trout, there are some pointers that will help in catching more fish than expected.

The main idea in fishing is getting the bait to the area where the fish are. If the sun is shining or the water is warm, trout will head for cool waters, like in deep shaded areas or enclosed holes.

If fishing with the current, do not let the spinner sink. Start to reel it in as soon as it strikes the water. If the spinner sinks, the one catching the fish will be wading by the hole to try in getting the spinner off the rocks.

In running the spinner with the current, a fine spinner reel is needed. A fine reel will allow variations in the speed of the retrieval, which will match the depth of the hole and the speed of the water.

A bigger bladed spinner has more control on the retrieval. The bigger blades appear to offer more lift, even when retrieving at slow speeds. What it means is that the bigger blade is helping the spinner to keep off the rocks.

If fishing in a stream or river, do not skip the long holes near the banks, the ones with overhanging branches. Running the spinner with the current would be right next to, and at times under, those branches, down where the trout are most likely to hide.
